Understanding Project Briefs

Use this as a breakout of understanding what all lives within our organization project briefs by section and by need.

What is a Project Brief?

A project brief is an aggregate document that allows for an assigned team to communicate effectively with our clients to work on a project within a set list of guidelines. These guidelines are typically organized by sections, depending on the project — we will allocate needs to certain sections and eliminate others.

Sections:

  • Background - General information about the client and details related to the overall scope.

  • Assignment - Direct comments about the project scope and what we are to do.

  • Specification(s) - Are there any print, digital or design specifications (dimensions, weight, etc).

  • Consideration(s) - Details about the project that have been previously identified, and we can't forget.

  • Desired Behavior(s) - Actions and functions of the project that make it unique/satisfy client needs.

  • Assumption(s) - Inherent understanding of the project boundaries and attributes.

  • Mandatory - Must have function, language and ability of the project.

  • Audience - Who is this project created for and catering to? Age, demographic, persona, etc.

  • Team - Members of the team assembled to perform this project (Roles, time, expectations).

  • Timing - Milestones around when the project needs to be completed.

  • Project Brief - General brief, typically what we share with our client to reference the overall project.

  • Creative Brief - Specific to Creative team, may vary on sections and references.

  • Production Brief - Outlines a film by phases (Pre, Pro and Post). See Production for more details.

Give background details on project:

  • Project: Reference the correct Project Name, ex: TWC18_INTERN_U3 Project Name

  • Date: MM.DD.YYYY Ex: 05.08.2018

  • Document Version: Identify which iteration of this document is being viewed. Versions are updated based on GIT system.
